Little Lhasa in the Dhauladhar

Where the mountains meet a quiet revolution

In 1960, a young Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetans in exile were given a home on a misty ridge in Himachal — and turned it into "Little Lhasa". Today McLeod Ganj hums with maroon-robed monks, fluttering prayer flags and the smell of momos and mint tea, all of it framed by the Dhauladhar range rising like a wall of snow straight out of the pines. Few places in India feel this peaceful, or this alive.

Getting there from Faridabad is a long, satisfying run. Your cab reaches your gate, loops around Delhi on the KMP Expressway onto NH-44, and heads north through Ambala and Chandigarh, then climbs via Kiratpur and the Kangra valley to Dharamshala. The last stretch is proper hill road — and the first sight of the Dhauladhar makes every kilometre worth it.

Spin a prayer wheel, look up at that wall of snow, and feel your shoulders drop an inch.

Beyond the monasteries, Dharamshala rewards the curious: the Triund trek to a ridge under the peaks, Bhagsu waterfall, the world's highest cricket stadium, and cafés where afternoons quietly vanish. A Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi hands the long drive to someone who does this road for a living, so you arrive with the energy to climb.

The Dharamshala you're driving toward

Six sides of Little Lhasa

Monasteries and treks, waterfalls and snow walls — here's what to line up once the road stops climbing.

McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

McLeod Ganj

"Little Lhasa" — the hillside home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile, all prayer flags, monasteries and momos, with the great Dhauladhar wall rising straight behind. Spin a prayer wheel, sip a mint tea, and feel the calm settle in.

The Triund trek, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

The Triund trek

The classic day-hike above McLeod Ganj — a few hours up through oak and rhododendron to a grassy ridge where the Dhauladhar peaks feel close enough to touch. One of the most rewarding easy treks in the Himalaya.

Camping under the peaks, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

Camping under the peaks

Spend a night at Triund and the mountains put on a show — sunset gold on the snow, a sky thick with stars, and dawn breaking over the Kangra valley. Tea at the little cafés up top tastes like victory.

Deodar & monasteries, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

Deodar & monasteries

The slopes around McLeod Ganj are thick with ancient deodar cedars, and tucked among them are monasteries humming with chanting monks — Namgyal, the Tsuglagkhang complex, and quiet shrines where incense drifts through the pines.

Dharamshala & the valley, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

Dharamshala & the valley

Lower Dharamshala sits above the sweeping Kangra valley, home to the world's highest cricket stadium (HPCA) with the snow peaks as its backdrop. The view from town, valley below and mountains above, is pure Himachal.

Bhagsu & the waterfalls, Dharamshala — Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi | EZPZ Taxi

Bhagsu & the waterfalls

A short walk from McLeod Ganj, Bhagsunag temple and its waterfall draw travellers for a cool dip and a café afternoon, while cloud-wrapped Triund glows above. This is Dharamshala at its most easygoing.

The overnight-to-mountains classic

11:30 PM
Past Chandigarh. A tea stop, then the quiet night highway toward Kiratpur.

7:30 AM
Arrive McLeod Ganj, check in. Hot breakfast, a shower, and that first look at the snow wall.
Day 1–2
Monasteries, Bhagsu & Triund. The Dalai Lama temple, the waterfall, and the great ridge trek.

Home — or via Amritsar. An unhurried drive back, or a Golden Temple stop on the way.
A little insider timing

When to go — and what to expect up top

March to June is peak Dharamshala — pleasant days and clear Dhauladhar views, ideal for Triund. It's busy, so book ahead. September to November brings crisp air, golden light and thinner crowds — arguably the loveliest window.

December to February can dust McLeod Ganj and Triund with snow — magical if you pack for it and let us pick safe driving times. The monsoon (July–August) is lush and dramatic but can bring landslides on the ghats, so keep plans flexible. Carry warm layers year-round.

Small joys, big regrets if you skip them

Don't leave Dharamshala without…

…a morning at the Tsuglagkhang complex (the Dalai Lama's temple) and a spin of the prayer wheels. …the Triund trek, or at least a café with a Dhauladhar view. …a plate of Tibetan momos and thukpa, and a browse for singing bowls and prayer flags in the McLeod Ganj lanes. …and a dip near Bhagsu waterfall. Your cab's boot has room for the woollens and the mountain jam.

Getting out of town, smoothly

The route: Faridabad → KMP → Chandigarh → Kangra → Dharamshala

From Faridabad the KMP Expressway loops you around Delhi onto NH-44 — Karnal, Ambala, Chandigarh — the fast first half. Past Kiratpur the expressway smooths the run toward Bilaspur, then the road turns for the Kangra valley and climbs the last stretch to Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj. It's roughly 490 km, which is why many travellers go overnight.

Making a loop of it? Dalhousie and Khajjiar are a scenic add-on, and Amritsar with the Golden Temple sits neatly on the way back. Tell the driver and the route flexes to your plan.

Faridabad to Dharamshala — the questions people actually ask

How much does a Faridabad to Dharamshala taxi cost?
A Faridabad to Dharamshala one-way cab starts at about ₹7,400 for a sedan; for a run this long and this high, most families choose an SUV or Innova, which cost a bit more. That's all-inclusive — toll, state tax, fuel and driver allowance are already included, with no extra charges.
How far is Dharamshala from Faridabad and how long does it take?
About 490 km, roughly 9–10 hours with breaks. Starting in Faridabad you loop around Delhi on the KMP Expressway onto NH-44, then via Ambala, Chandigarh, Kiratpur and Kangra to Dharamshala — the last stretch is winding hill road.
Overnight drive or break the journey?
Both work. Many leave Faridabad late evening and drive overnight to arrive by morning; others break at Chandigarh for the night and finish fresh. Our drivers run this route regularly — tell us your style and we'll plan it.
Which car is best for the Dharamshala trip?
For the distance and the climbs we recommend an SUV or Innova Crysta — comfortable over long hours and surefooted on the ghats. A sedan is fine for two; a Tempo Traveller suits big groups. All AC, all with verified hill drivers.
Where in Faridabad will the cab pick us up?
Anywhere — Sector 21, NIT, Old Faridabad, Ballabgarh, Greater Faridabad or your society gate. Share the address at booking and the driver reaches your door at the hour you choose.
Will the cab reach McLeod Ganj, or only lower Dharamshala?
The driver takes you right up to McLeod Ganj where allowed — its lanes are narrow and can be traffic-controlled in peak season, so the last short stretch may be a walk. Share your hotel and we'll get you as close as possible.
Can we combine Dharamshala with Dalhousie, Amritsar or the Golden Temple?
Absolutely — Dalhousie and Khajjiar make a lovely add-on, and Amritsar with the Golden Temple sits on the way back. Tell us and the driver builds the loop with one car and driver throughout.
Is Dharamshala doable over a long weekend from Faridabad?
It's a long drive, so 3–4 days is ideal — travel, two full days for McLeod Ganj, Triund and Bhagsu, and back. A round trip with the same car and driver is the relaxed way to do it.
What is the best time to visit Dharamshala?
March to June for pleasant days and clear Dhauladhar views; September to November for crisp air and fewer crowds. December–February can bring snow to McLeod Ganj and Triund — magical, but carry proper layers and let us pick safe driving times.
What should we pack for Dharamshala?
Warm layers year-round (it's cool even in summer, cold up at Triund), a heavier jacket and gloves in winter, good walking shoes for the treks, and a light rain layer in the monsoon.
Are toll and taxes included in the fare?
Yes — the fare shown is all-inclusive: toll, state tax, fuel and driver allowance are already included. For overnight round trips a small driver night-allowance may apply, always shown upfront.
