The Kalka–Shimla toy train is hugely popular and sells out — reserve well ahead if you want it.
Vehicles can’t enter the core Mall/Ridge — your driver drops you close and parks below.
Evenings are cool even in summer; winters need heavy woollens and snow-ready shoes.
Summer and holiday weekends get crowded — midweek is calmer and cheaper.
July–August can bring slow, misty roads and occasional landslides.
The Ridge, Mall and Jakhu all involve real walking and slopes.
