The nearest broad-gauge railhead is Pathankot, ~90 km away; the scenic Kangra Valley toy train runs from there. Most travellers simply take a cab the whole way.

Begin the trek by morning; the new cable car cuts the climb if you’re short on time or energy.
Ridge evenings are cold even in summer; winters bring snow and ice on the trails.
Dress modestly, remove shoes and walk clockwise around stupas and prayer wheels.
July–August rain makes the Triund trail slippery and roads slow — plan around it.
ATMs thin out beyond McLeodganj; keep cash for the villages and trek stops.
